Mill Village Woven Together Story Set to highlight Spiritual Music
Our Tapestry is the stories of our homelands, cultures, faith, and struggles. Imagine you are journeying across the ocean on a slave ship to the plantation fields, leaving the land of your ancestors because of famine, political unrest, digging in the dirt farms as sharecroppers, going to work for “the Man” in the Mill Villages where churches were the epicenters. The film speaks about music played in churches in the piedmont region of North Carolina especially churches of Gastonia, North Carolina where cotton mills existed. Our cast, Brian Miller, takes us on a journey of a Mill Village where his ancestors worked, and the church that they attended where hymns and spiritual music played a major role in the lives of the cotton mill people.
